Design Alternatives Being Studied in Supplemental Draft EIS

During this Supplemental Draft EIS, we will study and evaluate the alternatives for the entire length of the project from I-205 to the Rock Creek Junction, but we will also look at different design options within particular "zones." The design options provide different ways to build the project, such as variation in the type of interchange or adjusting the road alignment. Each of the alternatives and design options will have its own advantages and challenges. These design options for the build alternatives are viewable by clicking the links below. More information on the alternatives and various design options will be available when the Supplemental Draft EIS has been prepared in 2007. Large detailed maps and more information about the potential impacts will be available at the next public meeting in 2007.

The following alternatives and design options are preliminary--for study in the Supplemental Draft EIS. The drawings could change with the selection of a preferred alternative and with the more refined design work during final design.

Alternative: No Build

The No Build Alternative means the Sunrise Project would not be constructed.

Modeling is used to forecast population growth and demand for transportation facilities. The project assumes many improvements that will be made in Clackamas County (City of Happy Valley, Damascus, etc.) by 2030. These assumptions help create a more realistic understanding of future travel demand.

The No Build Alternative, as well as the Build Alternatives, assumes normal maintenance of existing Hwy 212/224. The No Build and Build Alternatives also assume that several programmed projects in the direct vicinity would be built:
  • Widen SE 82nd Drive between Lawnfield Road and Highway 212/224.
  • Improve Hwy 212 connection to Mather Road via 102nd Avenue and Industrial Way
  • A new northerly extension of Hwy 224 at Rock Creek Junction that curves east to connect to SE 162nd and SE 172nd.
  • Create a climbing lane on Highway 212 between Rock Creek Junction and SE 172nd Avenue.
  • Widen SE 172nd Avenue between Foster Road and Highway 212.
  • Widen Hwy 224 between Rock Creek Junction and Carver Bridge.
  • Widen Carver Bridge to five lanes
